The reasons why garbage needs to be classified include:
1. Remove recyclable and non degradable substances, reduce the amount of garbage by over 60%, thereby reducing soil occupation;
2. Separate Hazardous waste to reduce pollution. For example, waste batteries contain toxic substances such as mercury and cadmium;
3. Turning waste into treasure, such as using plastic fast food boxes, instant noodle bowls, and disposable chopsticks, most of which can be recycled;
4. Waste sorting can reduce the risk of animal ingestion.
Units and individuals shall abide by the provisions of the state and the management of Waste sorting classification, fulfill the obligations of Waste sorting classification and reduction, place domestic garbage by classification, and shall not dump, scatter and pile up at will, and have the right to dissuade and report violations of the management of Waste sorting classification. The person in charge of household Waste sorting classified release and collection management shall perform the following responsibilities:
1. Formulate daily management measures for household Waste sorting and establish household Waste sorting management account;
2. Carry out publicity work, guide and supervise units and individuals to put Waste sorting by classification, and advise and stop actions that do not meet the requirements for classified putting;
3. Set up domestic Waste sorting classified collection containers according to the relevant requirements of the state and the city, and keep the classified collection containers complete, intact and tidy;
4. Collect the classified household waste and store it in a location that meets transportation conditions and environmental control requirements.
Units and individuals who violate relevant regulations and fail to classify and dispose of household waste shall be ordered by the urban management department to make corrections within a specified time limit. If they fail to make corrections within the specified time limit, the unit shall be fined not more than 1000 yuan, and the individual shall be fined not more than 200 yuan.
Law of the China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Wastes
Article 49 Units, households, and individuals that generate household waste shall fulfill their obligations to reduce and classify household waste at the source in accordance with the law, and bear the responsibility of the producer of household waste.
Any unit or individual should classify and dispose of household waste at designated locations in accordance with the law. It is prohibited to dump, scatter, stack, or burn household waste at will.
Organs and institutions shall play a leading role in the work of household Waste sorting.
Domestic waste that has been classified and disposed of should be collected, transported, and treated according to regulations.
